For years, Botox has been thought to help people suffering from migraine headaches. The philosophy behind the idea is that Botox injections inhibit muscles and nerves at specific trigger points which are known to cause migraines. However, it’s not the only game in town anymore. Plastic surgery may be another option for those looking to eliminate head throbbing migraines.
Now, we know what you are thinking. How can plastic surgery reduce or eliminate migraine headaches? Well, one plastic surgeon has developed a nerve compression surgery patterned after forehead rejuvenation surgery to do exactly that. He first uses Botox injections to determine the appropriate trigger site for the migraines, and then administers the surgery.
So far, the results look promising. According to a paper published last year in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the plastic surgeon reported 61 out of 69 patients that had the surgery received at least some relief from migraine symptoms. Even better, in 30% of the patients, the migraines went away completely.
